I'm a guitar instructor with training in the Suzuki Method.
How I Teach:
I specialize in teaching young beginners how to play the classical guitar.
The youngest students can reasonably begin guitar at age 3-5 with a 1/4 sized instrument.
Weekly, 30-minute guitar lessons are available in your home.
I'm also available to teach in community settings/schools.
Choose between two directions of study... along the way, both approaches will cover the general music concepts that kids need to know.
Suzuki Method: A structured path beginning with Suzuki Guitar School Book 1 & the philosophy of the Suzuki Method.
This internationally recognized, rewarding approach to learning music requires the student to use a classical guitar, and calls for strong parent/guardian involvement in practice and listening to music at home.
Folk Playing: Learning popular songs, chords, and simple notation/tabs (think "singing & strumming"). We can be more flexible with which pieces we play, and we can focus on a variety of skills based on interest, such as songwriting; we can also use steel string guitars with this approach.
Expenses:
Weekly 30 minute lessons: $145 per month
Weekly 60 minute lessons: $255 per month this is a special rate for back-to-back friend/sibling lessons given in the same home

The First Meeting: All you need to bring is a notebook and pencil. If you have a guitar, that's great – I can also bring rentals to try on for size. The first lesson is an introduction for both student and parent or guardian.
We’ll go over how lessons work, try some simple musical activities, and get a sense of the student’s starting point.
Younger students will do short games and exercises, while older beginners may begin playing the instrument right away.
We will also discuss goals, practice expectations, and how learning will be supported at home.
All children are capable and deserving of becoming great musicians. Talent is learned, not inborn. With the right support, every child can be successful.
We teach music based on how young people learn language. We teach students by ear first, and we teach so students can express themselves through music.
We encourage students to listen to music – a LOT.
We love having families involved in student learning. Whether it’s a parent, grandparent, guardian, or an adult who is regularly involved in a young person’s life, we believe finding an adult that can support a student in their learning – in addition to their teacher – is a wonderful way to support student success.
We lead with a positive environment and encouragement in our music lessons.
Our goal is to support young people in their development as life-long learners with kind hearts! Music gives us skill sets well beyond our instruments, and we focus on developing those skill sets alongside our instrumental technique.

Yes, kids 3-5 can absolutely start guitar. They can benefit from it immensely, and so can everyone else!
Yes! Adults who played an instrument as a child still reap neural benefits.
